Election Commission told to Facebook-Twitter - Do not broadcast such news from which elections will be affected
Chief
Election Commissioner said - Stop the wrong reports during social media
campaigns including Google.
According
to OP Rawat, social media companies will need to do the maximum drill 48 hours
before voting
Google,
Facebook and Twitter have told the Election Commission that their platform will
not broadcast any news that affects the credibility of elections during the
campaign. Chief Election Commissioner OP Rawat gave this information on Sunday.
Rawat also said that this has been tested during the Karnataka elections.
Election
Commission had discussions with regional heads of social media companies
Rawat
said that this was a beginning in Karnataka. The Lok Sabha elections will be
held next year. There are assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan,
Chhattisgarh and Mizoram later this year. In view of this, we have to make much
preparation.
According
to Chief Election Commissioner Rawat, senior Deputy Election Commissioner Umesh
Sinha had spoken to the regional heads of Google, Facebook and Twitter. Sinha
appealed to the chiefs whether they can reassure the credibility of the
elections.
Rawat
said - Social media companies, including Google, should not use their platform
for Fake News so that the people do not have to reverse their impact.
Chief
Election Commissioner Rawat told that during the campaign, social media
including Facebook and Twitter will be used extensively. All of them must stop
the dissemination of wrong reports. This would be more important if voting
would last for 48 hours.
According
to Rawat - the election campaign ceases 48 hours before the election. This time
the silence period is called. In the meantime, the voter decides who to vote
for whom.
The
Chief Election Commissioner also said that social media companies also gave
assurances that they would also show political advertisements. It will also
cover the expenses of the parties. This will allow the political parties to
know about the expenditure incurred in the election campaign.
Google
will install such a system so that it will be allowed to share details with the
Election Commission about the expenditure on its platform.
